Meet Christopher Scott
My practice is focused on helping people improve their relationships, feel happier, and more fulfilled at work and school. I specialize in helping people revitalize their relationships, recover from affairs, and working with clients who identify as sexual minorities. I help my clients by using a structured approach that helps them deescalate conflict, reconnect and live according to their values. I also provide a space that is accepting regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or relationship configuration.
Individual Counseling
I have been practicing as a licensed psychologist since 2007 and I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, prisons, VA hospital, University Counseling Centers and private practice.
My philosophy of practice centers on respect for all people that come to my office. I take a holistic approach to assessing my clients and consider factors including cultural experiences and spirituality.
I feel that it is necessary to conduct a thorough history before moving to treatment. Oftentimes I will incorporate psychological assessment instruments into my client work to help clarify concerns and develop an evidence-based treatment plan.
Here are some counseling issues that I specialize in:
Depression
According to the National Institute of Mental health almost 7% of adults have reported a depressive episode in their lifetime and adolescents are almost twice as likely to suffer from depression. Depression doesn’t just exist “in your head”, it takes a physical toll on your body. I use evidence-based treatments with my clients suffering from depression which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology.

Anxiety
Anxiety disorders are extremely prevalent and often co-occur with depression. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that approximately 19% of US adults suffer from an anxiety disorder in a given year. Anxiety disorders cause significant physiological distress, lead to sleep problems, and often lead to avoidance and procrastination. I teach my clients how to manage their anxiety by using relaxation training, and cognitive techniques to challenge their anxiety-producing thoughts.

Sexual Concerns
I work with people with a variety of sexual health concerns including sexual dysfunction and concerns about out of control sexual behaviors (also known as sex addiction or porn addiction). Many people are embarrassed or afraid to bring up sexual concerns, however I believe that a person’s sexual expression is an integral part of their humanity. I identify as a sex-positive therapist and am affirming for clients who identify as sexual, gender, and relationship minorities and I welcome those who identify as coming from the kink or poly communities.
